About Oswego Island
In the tranquil Smith's Sound between the St. Davids island and Smith's island, lies the secluded Oswego Island. The 3.2 acre island is the perfect respite to enjoy the simple pleasures of island living.
Oswego house is the ideal place to relax and enjoy paradise with all the comforts of home. Uniquely designed by the award-winning architect Jacob Hocking of CTX, the home is combined of old and new features, and is a pleasing marriage of traditional Bermudian architecture with contemporary modern design. Designed to let the outdoors in, the brand new three bedroom dwelling boasts natural water views, more than ample porch space and an open-plan. The fluid design together with retractable folding doors allow for the gentle island breeze to flow endlessly throughout the whole house. At least a week's stay is recommended to totally relax, unwind and thoroughly enjoy Oswego Island.
The island comprises a newly built 3000 sq. ft house , a boat shed, a southern facing dock with large floating dock and northern facing dock, both are deepwater docks. The 3.2 acre island has mature and lush vegetation year round consisting of many native and endemic species, which not only provide complete privacy but also add to the tranquil island ambiance. There are garden paths that navigate the whole island and the leveled grass terraces provide quiet shaded areas to enjoy privacy and the outdoor natural habitat.
From the central and open staircase to the open plan living, kitchen & dining area, to the cozy bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, Oswego house is a well designed and fluid home. The home is ideal for relaxed family-style casual dining and island-style outdoor living. The upper floor features beautiful views and consists primarily of the living, kitchen and dining space, while the lower floor is home to the generously-sized 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a games room and ample storage/closet space. The kitchen has clean and modern lines, and is equipped with the all the appliances of a modern kitchen. The oversized island in the kitchen is the focal point and will prove to be a popular gathering spot at mealtime (only if, of course, you choose not to eat al fresco). The open beam ceiling lends itself well to the airy and breezy feel of the island home. The tower is a unique architectural detail that sheds natural light throughout.
By far the most inviting and unique part of Oswego cottage is the folding glass walls simply because they fold back completely allowing for the interior to blend seamlessly with the outdoor porch area. This finishing touch is perfect for outdoor entertaining or to simply let the fresh air flow through the home.
